The process of sexual fertilization involving the transfer of pollen grains from an anther to a stigma. The mechanism by which pollination occurs varies, and can include insects, birds, wind, water, or humans; in all cases the male chromosomes contained in pollen are combined with the female chromosomes contained in the ovules.
