integrated pest management

Integrated pest management (IPM), also known as integrated pest control (IPC), is an ecosystem-based strategy that focuses on long-term prevention of pests and the damage they cause through a combination of techniques such as biological control, habitat manipulation, modification of cultural practices, and use of resistant varieties. IPM aims to suppress pest populations below the so-called economic injury level, the point at which it hurts folks economically.
