When dealing with hybridized seed, such seed is normally presented with a filial generation number such as (F1), (F2), etc. The number in question serves to indicate how many generations removed from the initial breeding merger of plants with the desired characteristics the seed is from. In an F2 population, roughly 75% of the seed will possess the desired dominant phenotype, with 25% possessing recessive qualities. (Read an excellent write up of what’s taking place at the F1 stage, and what occurs in later generations…).
