A process whereby the temperature range and speed of germination of a seed are enhanced. Additional priming can be used to break light dormancy, if required. Many lettuce seeds are primed in order to enhance germination. The priming process decreases the storage life of seeds, so primed seeds should be used within a single growing season and not saved.
